“I want to get this right,” I heard myself saying more than once recently. Holding people's stories, whether ancient or modern, proves a precious responsibility.

A poem about trying to write poetry again and trusting the artistic process:

I decide to show up again.

Writing poetry is tedious when unicorns refuse to prance across the sky.

No matter what someone brings to a photoshoot, she encourages, “Be curious.”

This connects with what Scott says earlier about honoring a person’s story. Mystery exists in the moment and the connection between photographer and model; both are essential to the artist’s work.

I’m part of an online co-working space. On today’s wake-up call, the question was, what was the best part of your week? After a few seconds, I typed, “practicing photography for an hour.”

“Mom, did you know your expensive camera is sitting inside the console of your car?” Abi asked the other day.

“Yes, I put it there so I would go out and take photos, but I sorta forget it’s there.”

Welcome to this diary journey of creating my master’s arts project at Regent College: with all the creative challenges and victories along the way. I’ve completed two years of a master’s of theological studies in Christianity and the arts, mostly online. This project is a capstone of sorts, an integration of my learning and a creative expression of that.
